Economist Chen Zheng Donated Works to the Archives of Soochow University


Professor Chen Zheng, a graduate from Wuxi College of Chinese Culture (Predecessor of Soochow University) in 1949, also the former President of Fujian Normal University and one of the most reputed economists in China, donated over 20 works to the Archives of the University.

Professor Chen was born in 1928 in Taixian, Jiangsu Province. He had an original name “Xilin” and was also named as “Changmei” and “Hanmei” during his study. He has been a key figure in both the higher education administrative sector and the social science research field. Throughout his academic career, Chen devoted himself to the diffusion, research and development of Das Kapital and made great achievements with many works to his credit. As his representative work, the 1440-thousand-word Explanations of Das Kapital was considered as the first comprehensive and systematic monograph of the very masterpiece of Karl Marx. As is said by Xing Weihua, the honorable first-grade Professor of Renmin University of China, “Professor Chen Zheng is definitely a forerunner who explains and comments Das Kapital in an comprehensive, systematic and high-level manner.”
